A practical sequence
- Define the eligible audience and unit of assignment. Keep a person or session from receiving conflicting treatment where the design requires consistency.
- Set the primary metric, guardrails and analysis plan in advance. Include sample assumptions and the stopping rule.
- Verify allocation, event delivery and important user journeys before reading uplift. Investigate unexpected sample imbalance.
- Classify the outcome as evidence for a decision, insufficient evidence or an implementation problem. Preserve uncertainty rather than forcing a winner.

The decision to take away
When data is insufficient, a carefully observed usability change may be a better next step than another underpowered test.
